Prepping for Your Tattoo

  • Shower the day of your session. You want to be sure you are clean, so no dirt or bacteria gets in your tattoo.

  • Eat before your session.

  • Drinks lots of water.

  • Sleep. You want to be fully rested for your session. Exhaustion can lead to wooziness.

  • Exfoliate 2 days before your tattoo with a light exfoliant. You do not want to cause any tears or abrasions, so avoid harsh sugar scrubs.

  • Moisturize your skin. Healthy skin is the easiest to tattoo.

  • Do not shave the area being tattooed. We will fully prep your skin before the tattoo.

  • Dress comfortably and with regard to your tattoo. Wear loose clothing. If you are getting your legs tattooed, please wear or bring shorts. Do not wear tight clothes over the place you are getting tattooed. Please wear underwear if you are unable to wear pants during your leg tattoo. We can provide tape/pasties for coverage during chest tattoos.

During Your Tattoo

  • Be sure you are at the right address. Black Pearl Tattoo is just next door and we do not want to bother them. Our studio has a cowboy painted on the window and has our name clearly painted.

  • Our studio is a private studio, so it will typically be you, whomever you bring along, Austin, and his wife Milly who runs a photography studio in the adjacent space.

  • You will fill out a consent form and give us your ID to scan.

  • We will show you your tattoo design, then we decide on size and placement. After that, we will apply the stencil, let you confirm the placement, then let it dry.

  • We will begin your tattoo. I will ask you if you need breaks, but please speak up if you need a break or you start to feel woozy.

  • After we finish the tattoo, we will let it ooze and calm down a little. Then we will wipe it clean, take photos of it, then wrap you in a second skin bandage.

    • Remove the bandage in the shower by running warm water over it and underneath the bandage.

    • Wash the tattoo with antibacterial, unscented soap. We recommend Dial Gold. Use the pads of your fingers to wash the tattoo. Wash morning and night until healed.
